Community sponsorship is a Home Office scheme that enables community groups, such as ours, to become directly involved in supporting the resettlement of families fleeing conflict and in need of protection.
Community volunteers take on the responsibility that would normally fall to the local authorities by welcoming a refugee family and supporting them to adapt to life in the UK.
Upon successful application to the Home Office to be a community sponsor, we will be allocated a family whom we will be responsible for at least one year and obliged to provide accommodation for them for at least 2 years.

The Refugee Crisis?
Each day you turn on the news to witness the impact of wars that have led to the highest levels of people displacement on record. 70.8 million people around the world have been forced from home.

UNHCR camps provide a very basic living facility with very little facilities. The camps should be the exception and only a temporary measure but many have been living in these conditions for years.
Why Sponsor?
Refugee families are vulnerable people fleeing conflict. Helping and supporting those in distress is a trait that is encouraged by Islam and a noble characteristic.
..Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter..
Sahih Muslim
Helping others doesn’t just consist of donating to charities financially online, it includes physically helping people, volunteering your time as living the faith is worship, ibadah. Ibadah is often misinterpreted to ritual worship, but it is so much more service to God through service to humankind.
Our Responsibility
Through community sponsorship, a community group supports the empowerment of refugee families to become self-sufficient members of their new community by:
- meeting the family at the airport
- finding suitable housing (the families receive housing allowances)
- finding English language classes and practicing English with the family
- registering children in schools
- helping them find a job
- making sure the family can access suitable medical and social services
- helping them acclimatise and understand British culture
- offering friendship and advice as they settle into their new lives
More importantly it is helping the resettled family to make this their home.
Why don’t you join us? You don’t need any special skills to help out as you too could help transform the life of a family.
